Obviously there are a gazillion pretty kick ass songs, but there are an equal amount of bad to awful 80s songs. In this Top 5 List, I am going to list my top choices for the rad 80s music!
A-Ha - “Take On Me”
With the catchy tune and the far out video, this song seems timeless to me. I play it all the time and it never gets old. And just to make this song extra awesome, Weezer did a cover of it and it is AMAZING!
Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
George Michael before he went solo. The 80s hair. The dancing. What’s not to love? I remember dancing to this song in my bedroom having the time of my life. Oh the memories!
Survivor - Eye Of the Tiger
This is the epitome of 80s music. If this doesn’t make you want to run stairs just like in “Rocky” you must not be listening close enough.
Michael Jackson - Thriller
No list of the best 80s songs would be complete without any Michael Jackson song on the list. There were so many to chose from, but I chose ”Thriller” because the 13 minute video is more like a movie. Clearly the song is one of his best, but when you work with John Landis to make this epic video, “Thriller” should be near the top of the best songs and video of all time.
Bill Medley - (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life
This song reminds everyone of “Dirty Dancing” one of the quintessential movies of the 80s. When it comes on you just have to say “No one puts Baby in the corner!” You see the end dance routine and look back on watching this movie a million times while growing up in the 80s.
I could have made this list for hours, but I really did have a hard time picking just 5 songs. What are your Top 5 songs from the 80s? Do you like my list or is there something I missed?
